Child Safety | Rental Compliance | Professional Installation

At Red Tag Services, we help homeowners, landlords, and property managers ensure that corded internal window coverings are fully compliant with Australian safety standards. Our inspections protect young children from cord-related hazards and ensure your property meets both federal and Queensland legal requirements.

Why Compliance Matters

Loose or unsecured cords on blinds and curtains pose a serious strangulation risk to children. Compliance is mandatory under the:

Competition and Consumer (Corded Internal Window Coverings) Safety Standard 2014, and

Residential Tenancies and Rooming Accommodation Act 2008 (QLD)

Key requirements include:

Cords must not hang lower than 1.6m from the floor (1.4m minimum clearance plus 200mm loop restriction)

Cleats, clips, or tensioning devices must be installed to keep cords secure

Warning labels must remain attached and visible.

Non-compliance may result in penalties and risk to occupant safety — particularly in rental properties, short-term accommodation, and homes with young children.
